Volunteer to Restore the Aud Floor

Volunteer Opportunity: Preservation Boot Camp – Passive Wood Floor Restoration

Dates: June 24th–27th
Time: Thursday - Saturday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (come for a few hours, one day, or all four!)
Location:The Auditorium Basement, Eureka Springs, AR

We need all hands on deck—join us as a volunteer and help bring new life to one of Eureka Springs’ most important community spaces.

Main Street Eureka Springs, in partnership with the Eureka Springs Preservation Society, Eureka Springs Building Department and the City Advertising and Promotion Commission, is hosting a hands-on Preservation Boot Camp focused on restoring historic wood floors—without sanding. This is a working project, and volunteers are essential to making it happen.

Whether you can give a few hours or the full four days, your time makes a real impact.

You’ll work alongside experienced preservation professionals, including Paul Sutherland (Eureka Springs Building Inspector with 30+ years of restoration experience) and Trevor Halladay, who were trained by nationally recognized preservationist Bob Yapp. Along the way, you’ll learn practical preservation techniques you can use in your own home or future projects.

What You’ll Help With + Learn Along the Way:

Patching damaged wood boards
Gentle finish removal (no sanding)
* Treating stains + color matching
* Applying historically appropriate finishes
* General project support, setup, and cleanup

No experience needed—just a willingness to jump in, learn, and be part of something meaningful.

What to Bring:

Work gloves
Eye protection
* Knee pads
* Lunch + water

This is a physical, hands-on volunteer opportunity—expect to get a little dusty and leave feeling proud.

This project is about more than floors. It’s about building local skills, caring for our historic places, and creating opportunities for people to learn, connect, and contribute. Whether you’re a homeowner, artist, contractor, preservation enthusiast, or just curious—there’s a place for you here.

Bring your sketchbook and an object for the community still life, or enjoy our coloring supplies. Free/By Donation, sober, and open to all skill levels.
